The BLAS food pantry is located at the Basehor United Methodist Church, 18660 158th Street in Basehor and is open on Thursday’s unless there is a holiday or the schools are not in session because of snow/cold. Summer hours are 5:30 to 6:30 (April through October) and winter hours are from 5 to 6 (November through March). Anyone that lives within the Basehor-Linwood School District boundaries is welcome. Attendees fill out a need sheet and the volunteer staff members pull the items from the pantry shelves and place them in paper bags or reusable bags that the clients brings. It is helpful if recipients take a sheet home and fill it out prior to arriving at the pantry the next week. The pantry is limited on space so this helps with congestion as there tends to be a rush at the beginning of each session. Emergency utility bill assistance is available up to $250 per year for those that are in need. To participate, copies of the bill(s) will need to be submitted at the food pantry and BLAS will contact the utility to make a payment directly to the utility.
