Counseling Programs
Teaching kids the abilities, values and attitudes needed to find success

Counseling CurriculumAn important aspect of a counseling program is the counseling curriculum. At Basehor-Linwood, the counseling curriculum centers around the state of Kansas counseling standards which facilitates learning for all students in the areas of academics, career and personal/social development. Additionally, students receive education in the areas of social, emotional and career development which allows students to feel safe and successful while learning important life skills. The counselors in Basehor-Linwood use Second Step Curriculum along with other character education tools to teach the students important lessons that apply to both their current education and future learning.

Part of learning good character means helping students learn how to make good choices. In order for kids to make positive choices today, they need to learn about situations that could arise so they know what choice to make. That's why the counseling curriculum includes learning in bully prevention and other important safety lessons including drug awareness.

Since learning to interact with others is important for elementary students, the counseling department offers social skills groups. In these groups, students are allowed to work together in a small group of students from their own grade. Example topics focused on during these groups are conflict resolution, friendships, coping strategies, learning strategies, and working with others. Additionally, individual counseling is available as needed. |
